Canon EOS 6D Mark II Overview

The Canon EOS 6D Mark II is a 24MP midsize, EF mount, full frame format DSLR camera with a DIGIC7 processor and a metal mount. It was launched in June 2017.

The camera is a midrange level DSLR built specifically for photographers looking for their first full frame camera which is a good all-rounder. The 6D mark II is a good inexpensive full frame camera, with very good image quality.

Being mid-range it has no built in flash, as photographers at this level will use off camera flashes, speedlights and lighting.  camera in mind and incorporates built in features such as a built-in-features guide, scene modes, creative filters and picture styles one come to expect from entry level cameras, it also has a fully articulating 3-inch touch screen with an incredibly easy to use interface. The camera also comes out with a big mode wheel assisting photographers which includes the additional shooting modes such as Programmed Automatic (P), Aperture priority (Av), shutter priority (Tv) and Manual (M) shooting modes which one would expect to see.

Being in the mid-range and being full frame, one gets a higher expanded ISO and 6.5 fps in burst mode, the camera is very easy to operate and is a very good choice if you are looking for your first full frame camera with a DIGIC 7 processor.

Canon EOS 6D Mark II Design and operation

The camera body of the Canon EOS 6D Mark II is plastic and is weather proofed and the lens mount is metal. The camera feels very robust and ergonomic in one’s hands. The viewfinder is bigger than you would find in entry level model cameras. Buttons on the camera are multifunction and functions are depicted in either white or blue symbols. The white symbols functions while shooting, and the blue symbols indicate functions during playback and when reviewing the images. Being an economical full frame camera, there are fewer buttons on this camera than in other top of the range full frame cameras. The camera only has one card slot and a new control button close to the shutter button has been added.

The 24 MP CMOS full frame sensor of the Canon EOS 6D Mark II gives more dynamic range, less noise and a much sharper image by incorporating the DIGIC 7 processor. The camera is definitely a valuable for any photographer looking for an inexpensive full frame camera.  

The 3” fully articulating LCD screen is touch screen equipped with 1.04M dots is a fully articulating touch LCD screen. With an ISO range of Auto, ISO 100 – 40000 which is expandable to 50 – 102400, a maximum shutter speed of 1/4000sec. With a maximum shooting speed of 6.5fps and 45 auto focus points the Canon EOS 6D performance is good for an entry level full frame camera.

The Canon EOS 6D Mark II camera has the ability to take Full HD video (1920 x 1080) and can take 4K time lapse movies.

The camera connects via USB 2.0 and also has built in Wi-Fi which uses NFC as well as built in GPS. The camera has a HDMI type C connector as well as a 3.5mm mic-in jack. Bluetooth connectivity is also possible which allows the camera to be remote controlled via this function.

If you are in the market for a good mid-range entry level full frame DSLR camera then the Canon EOS 6D Mark II is a good model to consider.  It has specifications and with key features such as a fully articulating LCD screen with is touch screen with 6.5fps in burst mode. Camera performance is good with the DIGIC 7 processor. It’s a good option for photographers looking for an economical way to start shooting full-frame. If you save up a bit more you will however find other full frame models that will outperform this full frame model outperform this camera due to its low dynamic range, image quality and other models with more buttons which will give a much better ease of use.
